There’s officially 100 centimetres of snow blanketing the turf and talus at Nelson’s Whitewater Resort…that adds up to about a millimetre each for the seeming thousand or so early-season tourers, boot packers, tobaggoners and booter-builders who’ve been zig zagging the hill for the past three weeks or so. Heaps of locals and out-of-towners have been sniffing both in bounds and out, and while reports on conditions vary wildly, KMC’s early season expedition team can tell you the skiing is…..not all bad in bounds and anywhere between good, very, very so-so and downright heinous off piste. Close to 130 centimetres have piled up on Blasters’ Ridge, above the resort. The touring looks wintery for sure and stuff’s filling in, but be prepared for mucho shrubbery, boulderge and dicey descents as of Nov.27. The good news is the hill is on track for its planned opening Dec 10 (with perhaps a sneek-a-peak opening this weekend, snowfall dependent), and the Glory Chair cable has in fact got chairs hung off it, which is pretty funkin’ funky when you see it with your own eyeballs. The new zone is going to be off the hook once it fills in… Keep praying for snow… Ullr’s got his ears on…
