Whitewater Ski Resort’s most popular event returns February 24-26 and includes a night of stories at the Nelson Civic Theatre.
It’s back and it’s burly. The three-day celebration of backcountry exploration that is Kootenay Coldsmoke Powderfest returns to Nelson and Whitewater Ski Resort this February 24-26. This year’s grassroots festival will again offer clinics and competitions as well as a night of storytelling arranged by Kootenay Mountain Culture Magazine.
Dubbed “Stories To Tell,” the event is an all-star night of entertainment at the Nelson Civic Theatre on February 25th that includes:
- Actor Lucas Myers
- Photographer Kari Medig
- Videographer Bill Heath
- Photo journalist Matthew Tufts
- Metis artist and athlete Nahanni McKay
- Photographer Doug Le Page
- Writer Jayme Moye
- Painter and illustrator Cecelia Leddy
- and KMC’s Editor-in-Chief Mitchell Scott
There will also be a lot of prizes and giveaways at Stories To Tell. Doors open at 7:30. Tickets on sale at the Whitewater Office, 602 Lake St., Nelson, BC.
Other events at the Powderfest include the Knuckle Huck comp, Rail Jam, Poker Randonée, Organic Slopestyle, and freeride clinics with local phenom Trace Cooke.
New for this year is the Amateur Snow Ballet competition, which will be hilarious. Here’s the write-up: “We’ve all seen the videos: our spandex clad forefathers twirling around on short skis, twisting, inverting, and dancing their way to glory. Once an Olympic sport, snow ballet is now making a resurgence, and Whitewater is stoked to hop on the vibe train as part of the Coldsmoke Powderfest! Skiers, snowboarders, telemarkers, snow skaters, dual snowboards, snow scooters, everyone is welcome and encouraged to come on down and groove out. Choose from a predetermined list of 5 songs and dance solo or with your buddies. Prizes to be awarded for best overall performance, best costume, best group, and best solo!”
