On Thursday, July 24, 2025, be sure to tune into wherever you get your podcasts for the first three episodes of The Headwaters’ fourth season. For new listeners, The Headwaters takes you on an informative journey into stories about the people, issues, and ideas that make the Columbia Basin so unique.
“Our reporters went a little deeper this year,” says Mitchell Scott, executive producer and host of the podcast. “The first three episodes take you into the sun and wind of ‘Lake Life,’ on wild mountain adventures in ‘The Epics,’ and through some of the region’s history, as we speak to Basin residents who’ve dedicated their lives to preserving some of our beloved structures in ‘Heritage Heroes.’”
There are 10 episodes in Season 4, and every week until September 11 we’ll be launching new episodes covering a wide range of topics, including how we approach life and death, saving our starry skies, and the allure of rocks and snow—we even tackle the issue of those rascally rodents we see in roaming our towns. Plus, much, much more. We’re also introducing a new segment to the podcast, Tiny Towns, where we stop by the places you usually pass by.
The Headwaters is produced by Kootenay Mountain Culture Productions, in partnership with the Columbia Basin Trust. Initially launched in May 2022, the podcast has released 30 episodes to date, receiving a 5.0-star rating on Spotify, 4.8 on Apple Podcasts, and beaming reviews from its fast-growing listenership.

“Season four of The Headwaters continues to capture the spirit of the Columbia Basin—its people, places and possibilities,” says Delphi Hoodicoff, Executive Director, Communications at Columbia Basin Trust. “From life on the lake and backcountry adventures, to volunteerism, heritage and even meteors, these episodes reflect the unique stories that connect us to this region and to each other. We’re proud to help share these voices and perspectives, rooted in the Basin.”
The Headwaters has been downloaded over 42,000 times to date, putting it in the top 20% of all podcasts worldwide.
