What do you get when you cross three yahoos (two of them a couple of the Kootenays’ finest mountain media playas) the Rockies’ most famous winter traverse, and all the adventure and outdoor survival loot you can lug out of Canadian Tire?

See for yourself Friday when Steve Ogle lifts the lid on “True North”, the comically epic “assignment” he , photographer Kari Medig and a dude who’s name we couldn’t find, undertook last winter for Skier magazine. 

Included in Skier’s tenth anniversary issue, on shelves now, the hi-jinks are described as “a trek through the Wapta Icefield Traverse, armed with goods only purchased at that bastion of patriotism known as Canadian Tire.”

This Friday, at The Backyard Booty (Nelson’s Capitol Theatre, drinks 7:00, show 8:00) Ogle will be sharing his Wapta tale via satellite uplink from a rubberized barn stall somewhere in the bush above Fruitvale, where he’s been sedated and sequestered ever since returning from the trek in a questionable state of mind.Or he might actually get a short film or a slide show together on the trip in time for the opening curtain…you’ll have to come and see for yourself.

Other just-announced performances on The Booty marquee Friday…the one and only Shawn “Mad Dog” Morris will be sharing some of his world-wide images and reading from his prodigious poetry book “Eating Sitting Down.” 

Young film maker, ripper and son of famed rural-Salmo area logger Sandy Mitchell, Clay Mitchell, will be belting everyone in for a rowdy road trip to Revelstoke.

The ever-enigmatic Dave Heath will provide a blast from the powder-coated past with his slide show “Schuss.’

And even though BC is essentially without any provincial political leader of any stripe at this current juncture, Carl Jacks and his politically savvy kayaking crew aim to prove that BC is anything but rudderless, especially if empowered citizens take matters into their own hands…Jacks’ flick will be sounding the alarm bells on all those ultra-controversial Right of River projects, perhaps slated for a creek near you…

And don’t forget… a searing snippet from Victoria-based film maker Anthony Bonello’s latest film, shot in Kashmir, a peek at Rocky Mountain Sherpa’s monumental “All I Can” and a sample of the latest, greatest, wildest two-wheeled footage from those masters of near-disasters at Freeride Entertainment, the undisputed heavy weight champs of action adventure sport celluloid, based in the heart of The Koots.
