Fernie Brewing Company has won a gold medal at the Canadian Brewing Awards for its Campout West Coast Pale.
Fernie Brewing Company (FBC) has won gold at the 2019 Canadian Brewery Awards (CBAs) for its Campout West Coast Pale Ale in the North American Pale Ale category. This year marks the 17th Annual CBAs and they were held in Toronto earlier this month. It’s open to breweries of all sizes, provided they’re owned by Canadians, and there are 55 style categories, with three medals in each, and thousands of beer submissions. Of them, British Columbia breweries took home 50 medals and the only other Kootenay brewery to win was Mount Begbie in Revelstoke for its Stoked Winter Ale, which took home silver in the “Herb and Spice Beer” category.
“We’re thrilled to have won gold at the Canadian Brewing Awards, as it’s Canada’s most prestigious beer competition,” said Lenka Hawrys, communications manager at FBC. “The fact that we won with one of our biggest-selling, year-round brands, is even better.”
Launched in 2017, Fernie’s Campout West Coast Pale is a hop forward, light copper coloured pale ale with lots of Mosaic and Ekuanot hops, delivering a strong aroma and tropical fruit flavours. A hint of caramel is derived from the crystal malts and oats are added to enhance the body and mouthfeel.
According to the company’s recent press release, “the Kootenays may not be known for legendary surfing, [but] the easy-going essence of the West Coast is certainly captured in this pale ale, making Campout the perfect partner to lakeside camping trips and post-bike riding celebrations.”
The “Beer of the Year” award went to Red Racer After Hours Pale Ale, crafted by Central City Brewers and Distillers in Surry, British Columbia, and the Brewery of the Year was awarded to Clifford Brewing Company in Ontario.
