(Fernie, BC) – This time last year, Fernie Brewing Co. answered to many a call of the hop heads. A series of four IPA’s launched over the course of a year. All four checking “distinctive, full of flavour and unique” off the list. The Bucket List that is.
The idea of the IPA Bucket List was an FBC staff decision. During a beer name brainstorming session, the concept of grouping them together as a Bucket List came about. Who doesn’t need a Bucket List purely containing craft beer?
First up in this series is Rockpile Red IPA. FBC’s Brewmaster, Gord Demaniuk, selected Admiral, Ahtanum and Chinook Hops for their fine characteristics, with the use of Caramel and Crystal Malts bringing about the Malt balance in this Red IPA. “Truly a profusion of flavour to entice your taste buds. It’s not for the faint of heart, but definitely a beer for your bucket list”, describes Demaniuk.
Coming in at 80 IBU and 7.2% alc./vol., it certainly is. Enjoyed by many an IPA enthusiast, beer blogger and the intrigued, Rockpile Red IPA is a great start to the returning series.
Following in Rockpile’s footsteps is Snowblind Belgian IPA, launching early February during the peak of Fernie’s epic ski season. April sees the launch of the third, Quiet Rye’t – Rye IPA. With Last Cast Summer IPA hitting shelves in June – last in the series, whilst celebrating the opening of the Elk River, home to Fernie’s famous fishing scene.
Of course, to match FBC’s rebranding of late, the Bucket List is wearing the new FBC look second time around. The whole Bucket List will be available throughout BC (Private Stores), Alberta and Manitoba, with Rockpile Red reaching stores ~November 18th in BC and Alberta, Manitoba soon after.
