The Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival is celebrating its 20th Anniversary with one of the best line-ups of films & speakers ever. Watch the sneak peek of the trailer here.
We’re only 4 days away from the start of this year’s Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival. From the Arctic waters of Baffin Island to epic Himalayan ascents, this year’s film lineup takes viewers on 98 adventures from around the world.
The program for this year’s VIMFF is one of the all-time best and includes guests speakers such as world-renowned ice climber Marc-Andre Leclerc, ACMG guide and ski tourer extraordinaire Sam McCoy and activist filmmaker David Lavalee, who recently lived in Nelson, BC and who did “The Change I want to See” documentary about positive steps we can take as a society and as individuals to make the world a better place.
The Festival starts this Friday night, February 10 at 7:30pm (doors open at 6:30) at The Centennial Theatre in Vancouver. It then rolls out through the entire week with films and guest speakers being showcased in the afternoons and evenings. (For a full program line-up, click here.) VIMFF then culminates with a finale on Saturday, February 18.
VIMFF has come a long way since it was first incorporated in 1998 and hosted its first festival over three nights to a crowd of about 1,700 people. Today it’s a nine-day event in North Vancouver and Vancouver that’s showcased in three to four venues with presentations, films, photography, live music, and international film and photo competitions. Additionally, VIMFF now travels to about 30 communities with the Best of the Fest Tour and approximately 20,000 viewers partake in Canada alone.
